The SafetyStride is a mechanical stance control orthosis that utilizes a low-profile cable system to automatically unlock at the end of the stance phase. The key feature of the SafetyStride is its ability to resist knee flexion at any angle. Unlike traditional KAFOs, which only lock in full extension, the SafetyStride also resists knee flexion in mid-stance phase. This provides lower limb stability and doesn’t require a lot of energy for ambulation. In fact, an SCO’s ability to provide knee flexion during the swing phase of gait allows patients to walk with less effort and a more symmetrical gait pattern.
